Agriculture in Washington
Eastern Washington carries the state's production agriculture: irrigated Columbia Basin row crops, Yakima Valley tree fruit and hops, and dryland wheat on the deep loess hills near Walla Walla. Each of those is a distinct farming system with its own infrastructure.
Columbia Basin Project water and irrigation district standing are central to any review, as are orchard age, trellis and irrigation systems, storage and processing contracts, and labor housing where it exists. Dryland wheat ground is evaluated on rotation history and erosion practices instead.
