Florida agriculture runs on managed water. The Everglades Agricultural Area farms muck soils under a controlled drainage system. The central ridge carries citrus and specialty crops. Flatwoods across the interior support one of the country's older cattle traditions, and south Florida grows winter vegetables when little else in the country can.
A farm or grove gift here is reviewed with water management district permits, drainage obligations, grove condition, wetland boundaries and conservation easements all on the table. Citrus greening has changed the economics of many groves, and that is addressed plainly rather than glossed over.
